Jeep Grand Cherokee Generations

Following the success of the Jeep Wrangler and the smaller Jeep Cherokee, the company sought to expand their lineup with a new, larger SUV to be released in 1992. The Jeep Grand Cherokee would expand upon the size and capability offered from the already popular Jeep Cherokee, giving buyers four doors, increased stowage space, and additional safety features like airbags and ABS brakes. Over the years the Jeep Grand Cherokee would become one of the best-selling SUVs in its class. Learn more about the most popular generations below, and shop for your perfect used Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Grand Cherokee WK (2005-2010)

The 2005 to 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, also known as the WK, brought over some much-needed suspension upgrades from Jeep's other offerings, and also showcased a new, more rounded front and rear fascia. This was also the introduction of the powerful SRT8 trim, which featured a Hemi V8 outputting more than 420 horsepower!

Grand Cherokee WK2 (2011-2021)

One of the most popular generations of the Jeep Grand Cherokee came in 2011 with the Grand Cherokee WK2, featuring a sleek new body, an all-new suspension, and an updated lineup of available engines, also continuing the high-performance V8 option with the STR8. This was also the first generation to be offered with a backup camera, and models starting in 2018 featured Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

Grand Cherokee WL (2022-Present)

One of the most recent updates to the Jeep Grand Cherokee platform came in the 2022 model year with the Grand Cherokee WL, updating the body to an all-new modern design, increasing interior passenger volume, and releasing the first-ever Jeep Grand Cherokee hybrid model known as the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe.

Grand Cherokee L (2022-Present)

Alongside the new Jeep Grand Cherokee WL, Jeep released an all-new model known as the Grand Cherokee L. This new version features an extended wheelbase, nearly 7 inches longer than the standard Grand Cherokee. The Grand Cherokee L drastically increases passenger volume, giving riders a more luxurious and comfortable cabin than ever before.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trim Levels

In addition to its now five distinct generations, the Jeep Grand Cherokee also comes in a wide variety of available trim levels. From entry level options like the Grand Cherokee Laredo to the ultimate off-road Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, we've listed out some of our favorites.
